Pen CS is working with the University of Melbourne in a ‘SMART-SCREEN’ trial, focusing on bowel cancer prevention through increased screening via an SMS from GPs.

A free bowel cancer test is sent by the Australian Government to every person over the age of 50. However, only 41% of people complete it.

To overcome this, on 4th February 2020, or World Cancer Day, funding was granted to Dr Jennifer McIntosh and her team at the University of Melbourne for Cancer Research by the Victorian Cancer Agency to undertake this trial.

This trial is a collaboration between University of Melbourne, Pen CS, Healthily, Western Victoria PHN and Cancer Council Victoria.

The SMS, which includes a video developed by Healthily, is sent to a patient via Pen CS’ clinical audit tool (CAT4) from their GP.
